To
commemorate ANZAC Day, the Gaythorne RSL Sub-Branch holds an annual
writing competition for grades 4-6 to encourage school students to learn more about the
work undertaken by Australia's Defence Forces and to learn about and
honour past and present campaigns. This is a voluntary competition, however, Mitchie strongly encourages and supports students entering this event. Some of the past themes have been, "What does ANZAC Day mean to
me?", "Why are the Army, Navy and Air Force important to Australia?" and
"What roles have women played in wars and peacekeeping missions in
which Australia has been involved?".
We are always proud of the entries our students submit and have been thrilled when our students have won awards through this competition.
