SC@M in Space Astronomy Club is dedicated
to scientific enquiry about space. Each
week we learn about and explore different space phenomena.
The major objectives for SC@M in Space are:
1.To promote a love of astronomy
within Mitchelton State School.
2.To engage the children in
star-viewing nights and develop their understanding of the use of telescopes
and astronomical events.
3. To liaise with external
astronomy clubs.
Children from Grade 3 – 6 may join the
Astronomy Club.
SC@M in Space has been supported by Arrow
Energy with a $2000 grant. This allowed us to buy 2 Dobsonian telecsopes, x 1
Nexstar telescope and a Celestron telescope. The range of scopes were purchased
so as to allow the children to develop a wider range of skills. SC@M in Space
is also supported by CSIRO visiting scientist Mr Emanuel Polichronis and
several community members.
SC@M in Space will hold regular
star-viewing nights for its members and their families over the year.
