Mitchelton State School offers a strong and well balanced sports program for all students. Throughout the year, students take part in our cross country, athletics and swimming events as well as regular physical education lessons with the specialist PE teacher.
Students train for cross country early in the year, leading into our whole school cross country event and West District trial opportunities. In Term 2 we focus on athletics, with practice in PE lessons and a carnival for Years 3 to 6, and a junior fun sports day for Prep to Year 2.
All students participate in a water safety swimming program in Terms 1 and 4 through the Department of Education’s Water Safety and Swimming Education Program (WSSEP). These lessons focus on water safety and confidence and form part of the PE assessment.
Each year, two gala days are offered for students in Years 4 to 6, giving them the chance to represent the school in a range of team sports. We also access specialist coaches through the Sporting Schools program to support skill development across different year levels.
Students who show strong skills and interest in sport may have the opportunity to trial for West District representative teams. Families can find more information about district sport through the West District School Sport website.
