Our library is a friendly communal space in our school and everyone is welcome. It is well equipped with computers, a large book collection, games and activities for students to use. We have a film studio in our blue room and a stylish tropical courtyard.

Please come and see us some time.

Library Staff

We are fortunate to have a well-staffed library. Leanne Jeffrey and Julia Fuller are here to help you anytime.

They are currently assisted by community volunteer helpers from time to time and our Year 5 library monitors.

Opening Times for the library

The library is open before school from 8.15 am and after school until 3.30 pm. Parents are welcome to visit with their children. Students can also access the Library during the first break.

Borrowing at Mitchie

All students require a library bag with them in order to borrow and return books from the library. The school uniform shop sells high quality library bags and this is our recommendation.

The following are the borrowing limits for each year level. Students may choose any combination of Fiction and Non Fiction.

Online Library Management System

We have an online library management system called Concord Infiniti.

Students and parents can access our new curated library system by going to https://mitcheltss.concordinfiniti.com

These books and categories have been picked by the Library so students can easily find their favourite books.
To access our regular library system, students can login using their existing username, and their designated library password. Students can visit the library to request their password.

eBooks and Audiobooks

Mitchelton State School has access to the Education Queensland online library at Overdrive which allows you to read books on any device.

You can access the Education Queensland Library by going to https://soraapp.com/library/eduqueenslandau

Students login with their username and borrow what they would like to read.

You can access Sora on your mobile or tablet by searching the app store for Sora.

Damaged and Lost Books

If your child’s book has loose pages or some damage please bring it back and we will repair it with our special book tape.

Lost or damaged books need to be paid for by the borrower’s family and families will be invoiced for this cost. It is a last resort that we seek payment. If the book is returned after payment is made, then the payment is also returned.

Please encourage your child to take care of our books by keeping them away from drink bottles, pets, younger siblings etc. as the cost of replacement is high and as books go out of print they are not always easy to replace.

Special Events

Book Fair

The library hosts a Book Fair each year as part of the Mitchie BAM (Books & Music) festivities. The Book Fair is a highly anticipated event for students and gives the library commission from sales that enable us to purchase new equipment for the library. Past years have raised money for computers, iPads etc.

Book Week

This is held in association with BAM and utilises the annual theme for Children’s Book Week.

Authors in Residence

The library hosted Justin D’Ath and Andy Wright (storyteller) for a Writer’s in Residence Day. This was a hugely exciting day of stimulating talk about books, stories and literature, story writing techniques and crazy mad storytelling performances.

Readers' Cup

Each year Mitchelton State School invites upper school students to participate in the annual Readers' Cup.  The Readers' Cup is organised by the Children's Book Council of Australia and is a state wide competition for young readers.  Teams of four students read a pre-selected set of 4-5 books.  Each team competes with other schools to answer quiz questions from these books.

The Regional competitions are held towards the end of Term 2 each year, with the State finals being held during the Brisbane Writers' Festival in September. Students spend several months before the competition reading the books and developing sets of questions to help each other understand the books in greater depth.  The Librarian and Library Aide assist the students and accompany the students to the Readers' Cup competition.
