My name is Maggie Hoffmann and I am proud to be the Defence School
Mentor (DSM) at Mitchelton State School.
As the spouse of a currently serving member of the Australian Army, I have a personal understanding of the unique experiences that come with Defence life. From relocations and deployments to training commitments and periods of family separation, I recognise both the opportunities and challenges that Defence families may face and the resilience they demonstrate along the way.
The Defence School Mentor Program is funded by Defence Member and Family Support (DMFS), a branch of the Australian Department of Defence, and exists to help Defence students and their families feel welcomed, connected, and supported throughout their time at school.
At Mitchelton State School, the Defence School Mentor Program provides:
A friendly and familiar point of contact for Defence families, particularly during times of transition and change.
- Social and emotional support for Defence students, helping them build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging within our school community.
- Opportunities for Defence students to connect with peers and strengthen friendships through activities, events, and shared experiences
- Collaboration with families, teachers, and support services to ensure Defence students feel supported, understood, and able to thrive both at school and at home.
Whether your family is new to Defence life, new to our school, or simply navigating a challenging season, I am here to help. My goal is to ensure every Defence student feels valued, included, and connected, and that every family knows they have someone they can turn to within our school community.
I am available at school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and am always happy to have a chat. I look forward to getting to know your family and supporting your child throughout their journey at Mitchelton State School.
